Session: An Outlook on Opportunities: How Charities Must Leverage Tech to Adapt to the Present and Future
From blockchain and cryptocurrency, to AI and Web3, the pace of change in technology is only accelerating. This change presents both tremendous opportunities and significant challenges for sector leaders. Throw in economic uncertainties, a pandemic, and a constantly changing world, it’s more important than ever for sector leaders to make technology a core part of their growth strategy. In his first address as President and CEO of CanadaHelps, Duke Chang shares insights from his 25 years in tech and financial services in order to help charities adapt to meet present challenges.
An accomplished executive with more than 25 years of experience in financial services and technology, Chang will lead CanadaHelps as it advances its mission to increase giving in Canada by informing, inspiring, and connecting donors and charities, while democratizing access to effective technology and education in the charitable sector. Each year, CanadaHelps facilitates donations for nearly 1 million Canadians and processes almost half a billion dollars for Canadian charities from coast to coast to coast. Duke’s vast experience in e-commerce, technology, and product development, along with his deep commitment to the mission and vision of CanadaHelps to support Canadian charities will propel CanadaHelps forward into a new era of growth.
“As economic and post-pandemic pressures continue to dominate all areas of society, my vision is to ensure that Canadian charities are equipped to thrive through this period of unprecedented change and can meet donors wherever they are and however they want to give,” says Chang.Jason Shim, Chief Digital Officer, Canadian Centre for Nonprofit Digital Resilience.
Session: Building the Future: Harnessing technology to make an impact. How can we harness technology to make a difference in the world? That’s the question Jason loves to explore with organizations. Jason serves as Chief Digital Officer of the Canadian Centre for Nonprofit Digital Resilience which aims to build a digitally-enabled nonprofit sector, where Canada’s diverse nonprofits use data and tech to advance their mission and multiply their impact. Jason has previously served as director of digital strategy and transformation at Pathways to Education Canada, where he led technology and innovation. He led Pathways to become one of the first charities to issue tax receipts for Bitcoin donations. Jason serves as an editor at Ledger, a peer-reviewed scholarly journal at the University of Pittsburgh that publishes full-length original research articles on the subjects of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology. In addition, Jason has also served on the board of NTEN, an organization dedicated to creating a world where missions and movements are successful through the skillful and equitable use of technology.
