About Us
Hilborn, via Hilborn Charity eNews (formerly Canadian FundRaiser and Canadian Fundraising & Philanthropy) has been updating nonprofit leaders on news, trends, tips and analysis of developments in the fields of fundraising and nonprofit management since 1991.

Our services have grown to include Key-To-The-Sector learning events, Civil Sector Press book publishing and the Canadian Nonprofit Employer of Choice Award program which recognizes nonprofits whose exemplary talent management practices support successful mission delivery in the communities they serve.

Civil Sector Press
Hilborn’s Civil Sector Press International, along with its special imprints Emerson & Church and White Lion Press, is the English-speaking world’s largest publisher focused on the international nonprofit sector, providing books on fundraising and nonprofit management by a wide range of the world’s best and brightest sector leaders.

The CSP catalogue presents authors debating some of the most important issues confronting the nonprofit sector, as well as many highly regarded “how-to” reference books used by professional fund development managers and by educational institutions as course texts.

The Press was founded in 2007 by Jim Hilborn who also launched Canadian FundRaiser (now Hilborn Charity eNews) newsletter in 1991, and co-founded CharityVillage in 1993. A founding board member of the Canadian Association of Gift Planners, Jim published Gift Planning in Canada for over a decade beginning in 2004.

In 2022, Civil Sector Press acquired the backlists of Emerson & Church and White Lion Press.

Custom Publisher Packages
The worlds of book authors, publishers, marketers and readers have changed significantly in the past decade. Each of these separate but connected worlds has been ravaged by technological change, with the Internet leading the charge. Authors now find themselves in a vastly different situation: although it is more difficult than ever to get ‘published’ in any way remotely similar to the traditional route, they now have a previously unheard-of level of independence, and can draw economically on a wide range of editorial, design, communications, marketing, and publishing support services.

While the Internet and its associated technology indeed upended and transformed the publishing sector beyond recognition, it also delivered access to world markets to the individual author — independently of any large publishing organization. What was previously impossible for all but the very rich, is now easily available to the ordinary citizen with a story to tell.

Drawing on that support, authors can now publish well-written titles that appeal to their target audience without having to deal with the many frustrating challenges of traditional publishing. Civil Sector Press authors can choose from three Support Service Packages that they can tailor to suit their particular needs and budget: The Folio E-Book Package, The Folio Combined E-Book & Standard Print Package and The Folio Full Professional Publishing Package.
