Neil Gallaiford stays on as Chair of the Board as ST helps clients drive fundraising efforts during Covid-19 pandemic

TORONTO, ON–Stephen Thomas Ltd (ST), Canada’s premier full-service agency specializing in branding, marketing and fundraising for the non-profit sector, announced today that Paula Attfield has ascended to the role of CEO, adding it to her existing role as President. Former CEO Neil Gallaiford becomes Chair of the ST Board.

“This change is part of the management succession plan we’ve had in place at ST since Paula was named President in 2017,” explains Gallaiford, who joined ST in 2006 as CEO. As Chair of the Board, he will continue to provide strategic counsel to the executive team.

“Despite the challenges we’re all facing during the Coronavirus pandemic, we’re very excited about what the future holds for our agency, for our clients and for the charitable fundraising sector, overall,” says Attfield.

“Because of the pandemic,” Attfield says, “we’ve all been forced to innovate and reinvent the way we do things on a day-to-day basis, including pivoting on a dime to get emergency Covid-19 campaigns out the door, enhancing our technology solutions so our teams can work from home but still be as efficient and productive as before, and continuing to promote integrated strategies to our clients. I’m committed to retaining that spirit of innovation at ST as the world eventually gets back to ‘normal’.”

From a fundraising perspective, Attfield says many non-profit organizations are going to be faced with a monumental task that will require new thinking and approaches to execute effectively. But the moral imperative to ask donors for money is now stronger than ever. Because of that, she says, there’s going to be an unprecedented need for all charities and non-profits to utilize what works from the past while finding innovative new ways to raise funds to deliver and, in many cases, increase their services to their beneficiaries.

“ST has always been there, and will continue to be there, to help our clients connect donors to their cause so they donate or donate more. It’s what we do best,” Attfield says, “We help charities raise more money.”

A professional fundraiser for over 27 years with a particularly keen focus on integrated direct response annual giving, Attfield is also a long-time volunteer for the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the world’s largest community of social impact fundraisers. She sits on the boards of AFP Global and the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy – Canada. She is a member of the Board of Directors of AFP Toronto, the largest AFP chapter, and has chaired their three-day Congress. She is also a founding member and currently serves as Chair of the Board of AFP Canada, which represents the interests of Canadian fundraising professionals at the national level.
