Chun Keung Hui is honoured with this plaque outside the CK Heart Centre at Royal Alexander Hospital in Edmonton. The recognition was the inspiration of his son, Dr. William Hui, who was chief of cardiology at the hospital at the time. He and his wife were generous donors to the fundraising efforts which helped with a $200 million project to expand the hospital’s Robbins Pavilion. The younger Dr. Hui said his father wasn’t one to enjoy the spotlight but wanted to recognize the elder’s active role in many charitable organizations where he was raised in Guandong, a province on China’s southern coast. CK Hui was made a Member of the British Empire. The Edmonton hospital’s heart centre treats more than 50,000 heart patients every year and will celebrate its 10th anniversary next April.
